Dental Bonding At Our San Francisco Dental Office By Mohamed Ali, DDS

Dental Bonding and Your Smile

Dental bonding provides patients with a simple cosmetic dentistry solution that can yield beautiful results.  Dental bonding is a procedure where tooth-colored resin is molded and then bonded to the teeth, leading to subtle smile improvements that can make a dramatic difference.

Typically, dental bonding is used to:

  • Repair decayed teeth
  • Improve severely stained teeth
  • Close the spaces in between teeth
  • Fix teeth that are chipped or cracked
  • Make the teeth longer or change the shape of the teeth
  • Protect a portion of an exposed tooth root
There is little preparation that is involved for dental bonding.  Dr. Mohamed Ali will select a dental resin that matches the natural color of your teeth so that the dental bond looks seamless.
Next, the surface of the tooth is roughened and a conditioning liquid is applied to the surface of the tooth to help the bonding material adhere.  The putty-like resin is molded and then smoothed resulting in the desired shape of the tooth.

An ultraviolet light hardens the bonding material into place, and Dr. Mohamed Ali will make any final trimmings that are necessary.  The tooth is polished to match all of the patient’s natural teeth.

Dental bonding usually requires only one office visit for the procedure to be completed.  In addition, dental bonding requires less enamel to be removed than dental veneers or crowns.  The procedure is typically painless, and does not require anesthesia.
